Day 12 - Kitzbuhel

16 August ’11

Mikey Commentary:

Wake up at a half decent time and travel back to hinterglemm to do the trail. Park in the underground car park and then set up the bikes and then go and get tickets. Go up the cable car and do the blue line run. When we get to the bottom decide that the run is not designed for our bikes. Joe needs new quickrelease and a german guy behind me picked up my front reflector. Go to shop for a bit then go back and pack up bikes move the car to a free car park. Then have a bit of dinner before making the most of our tickets by going for a trek up the mountain. We then decide to travel to kitzbuhel. Find a spot and then go back down the hill to cook egg fried rice on a bench. When we were getting ready to go and set up someone stops and ask us what we were up to so we take that as a hint to move on and eventually find somewhere in a woods that looks like a trail when setting up in the dark. Martin was ill during the night so went to car to get water with him.

Martin:

About the bike ride mentioned... "Joe needs new quickrelease and a german guy behind me picked up my front reflector", looking back it's pretty funny. In the ski lift up the mountain side we chatted to some other biker in full blown gear with a serious downhill mountain bike setup. He'd travelled over (from some part of Germany?) specifically for a holiday to ride those trails. He was a little skeptical how we'd get on and that proved to be a valid concern! No one else in sight was riding hard tail mountain bikes on that trail!

That night I remember feeling super ill. My theory was drinking a big bottle of orange juice that had been left in a hot car all day. I was pretty sick that night! After Mikey had helped me find the car for some water or similar I remembered trying to convince him that I should just stay there and sleep in the car. Probably not a good idea and Mikey pointed that out. Later in the trip we would actually try sleep in the car instead of a tent and it was truly the worst nights sleep of my life.
